By Bob Nalbandian
SW: You recently formed your own label and production company - Black Devil Music. It must be challenging being both the artist and label executive...
KD: Yes, it is. Luckily, I am accompanied by my long-time girlfriend and love of my life. She is a musician and loves heavy music! She pushes me to keep forging forward in this business. Between her and the fans it is what really keeps me involved in the music industry. I think that if you handle your own business...you can't blame failure on anybody else but yourself. This keeps me focused and I never forget where I come from...the underground. It is always growing and will never die!SW: Looking back, what were your most fond moments with Hirax, or your previous bands?
KD: Everyday it gets better. The emails/letters that people write to me, making a new record, and touring...this is what I love. I know that I am lucky to still be alive and still be making a difference in the heavy metal music world. I mean, it's unbelievable that now there are books that have been written to tell the story about some of my work. I am completely honored! That is why I keep working hard to give the best to the people who support what I do!SW: I recently read an article somewhere in which James Hetfield mentioned that he still is a big fan of underground metal and he had been cranking out HIRAX in his car stereo. Do you still communicate with James or the other Metallica members?
KD: It's funny...I had heard the same stories about James. People were telling me that he drives around listening to HIRAX "Barrage of Noise." We still know a lot of the same people and they let me know what he is up to. Sometimes he even has people like Brian Slagel of Metal Blade Records relay messages to me. James and I are at a busy time in our lives right now. Metallica is like Led Zeppelin...big as f**k. And I am still very involved in the underground metal scene. Two different worlds...but I'm sure sooner or later we will see each other again. I have nothing against the guy and I think it's great that he listens to HIRAX's music. I would be lying if I said I don't listen to "Kill 'Em All" or "Ride the Lightening," because I still do.Click Here For HIRAX Interview Page 5
